Education
and Registration
Dave is a 1992 graduate of Michigan Technological University (MTU) where he earned dual Bachelor of Science Degrees in Civil Engineering and Engineering Administration. Dave's continuing education training includes courses at Michigan State University in road design and safety, Computer-aided Design and Drafting (CADD) and data collection, hydrology and hydraulics, and on-site septic disposal systems. He was licensed as a professional engineer in 1998.
Experience
During summer breaks while attending college, Dave worked as an inspector for the Kent County Department of Public Works and for Moore and Bruggink, a consulting engineering firm in Grand Rapids. His inspection duties included infrastructure projects such as watermain, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and roads for both public and private sector projects. Following graduation from MTU, he was employed at an architectural firm in Genesee County as a civil designer. In 1995 he joined the staff of GEI as a design engineer. In that position he has completed the design of road and drainage projects for Genesee, Shiawassee, Isabella, Ingham, and Branch Counties. In addition, Dave designed infrastructure for private land development projects. He also has extensive experience in calculating flood profiles, and in processing wetland and floodplain permits through the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ).
In 1998, Dave was made an associate member of the staff and promoted to the position of Engineering Design Coordinator.
